This is for the people who have made mistakes with recipes – you might have followed the recipe but something just didn’t work out right? I feel yah.
This is an encouragement to you…don’t give up and keep trying. As Aaliyah says in her song “If at first you dont succeed……..dust yourself off and try again”.
Most of the pictures on food blogs look mouthwatering and mistakes can be covered up with very little editing. Let’s face it, we are mostly drawn to the appearance and appeasement of these blogs.
When a triple chocolate brownies i was making for a bake sale crumbled, i decided to take the advice from this popular quote: “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade”
- 350g. Dark chocolate
- 100g. Milk chocolate
- 100g White chocolate
- 225g. Butter
- 225g. Caster sugar
- 100g. Self-raising flour
- 1tsp. vanilla extract
- 2tsp. Black coffee
- 3 large. Eggs
Let’s get started:-
Preheat the oven to 190c/Gs Mark 5 (10 minutes before baking).
Place the dark chocolate and butter in a heatproof bowl and place over a sauce pan with boiling water.
Stir occassionally until melted, remove from the heat and leave it to cool down for 2-3 minutes.
In another bowl, place the sugar, eggs, vanilla extract and coffee. Beat all these ingredients together.
Gradually beat in the chocolate mixture and sift the flour into the mixture.
Add 120g of the chocolate chips (milk and white), and gently fold into the mixture.
Spoon half of mixture into the baking tin and distribute (80g each of the remaining chocolate chip). Add the remaining mixture into the tin and bake in the oven for 45mins.
Expecting perfectly baked brownies?????
Hmm, well the pan slipped and fell whilst transferring from the oven to the table.
As you can see above, the brownies are crumbled, more like brownie crumble.
The failed brownies led me to the create ‘Brownie & Strawberry Trifle’ by using the ingredients (see below) I had in my fridge:

Start by making a strawberry sauce with the frozen strawberries Strawberry Sauce
Pour the cream into a bowl and use a whisk to whip it until it stiff . Place it in the fridge to chill
Use your hands to properly crumble the brownies and you can start assembling your trifle.
In a wine glass add the brownies, then the whipped cream and the strawberry sauce.
Add another layer of brownies, cream and top it off with fresh strawberries. Pour the remaining strawberry sauce on the trifle so it seeps into the extra layer.
